Best for: Outfits, makeovers, transformations
The hook
- Do
- Cover the lens with your hand, then pull it away to reveal a new look or place.
- On screen
- Watch the glow-up
The first 3 seconds
- 0.0sLook A, with your palm coming toward the lens.
- 0.5sThe screen goes dark behind your hand. The cut hides here.
- 0.8sThe hand pulls away to reveal look B.
- 1.5sFull reveal, with the caption: “Watch the glow-up”.
Why it works
Dark-then-reveal is a built-in mini surprise, and the dark frame hides the cut.
What you need
- A tripod, or a spot where the phone stays exactly still
- Two looks or places to switch between
- Your hand, flat and steady
Step by step
Plan
- Pick a change that's big and easy to see: pyjamas to a full outfit, a messy room to a clean one, day to night.
- Keep the phone in the same spot for both clips, so the cut can't be seen.
Film
- Clip A: start in look A, then cover the lens fully with your palm. Hold it there for a second.
- Change your look, or move to the new place.
- Clip B: start with your palm already covering the lens, then pull it away fast.
Edit
- Join the two clips on the dark frames, so the screen is black for only a few frames.
- Keep the whole change under 1.5 seconds, and add a whoosh or a beat drop on the reveal.
Use it in your niche
- FashionCover the lens in pyjamas, pull away in the full outfit: “Getting ready in 1 second”
- TravelCover the lens at the airport, reveal the beach: “2 hours later”
- Desk setupCover the lens on a messy desk, reveal it finished: “Desk glow-up”
Pro tips
- Match your pose in both clips. If your head is in the same place, the change looks like magic.
- Cover the lens completely. Light leaking round your hand makes the cut visible.
Avoid
- Moving the phone between clips. Even a few centimetres breaks the trick.
- A small change, like a different shirt in the same colour. It has to be obvious in half a second.
