Why it works
Pointing pulls the eye straight to the hook text, so people watching on mute still get it.
What you need
- Your phone, with space above your head in the frame
- A short caption, 4–8 words
- The app's text tool or CapCut to add it
Step by step
Plan
- Write the caption first and keep it to 4–8 words.
- Plan your points so you can start the first one straight away.
Film
- Frame yourself lower than usual, so about a third of the screen above your head is empty.
- Point up with both index fingers, with a face that fits: excited, serious, smug.
- Drop your hands after a second and go straight into point one.
Edit
- Add the caption above your head from the first frame. Big, bold, high contrast.
- Keep it out of the top 10% and bottom 20% of the screen, where the app's buttons cover it.
Use it in your niche

- StudyPoint at: “Study tips that actually work”
- MoneyPoint at: “5 apps that pay you to walk”
Pro tips
- Nod or mouth “this” while you point. It looks more natural.
- Using the app's own text tool makes it look native to the platform.
Avoid
- A caption over 8 words. People can't read it in one second.
- Pointing at the wrong spot. Check the caption sits where your fingers point.
