Hand Stop
Best for: Buying advice, warnings, tips
The hook

- Say
- Stop. Before you buy new headphones, watch this.
The first 3 seconds
- 0.0sYour palm hits the frame as you say “Stop.”
- 0.5sThe reason: “Before you buy new headphones, watch this.”
- 1.5sYour hand drops and your face takes over.
- 3.0sThe viewer is waiting for the warning.
Why it works
A gesture aimed straight at the viewer feels personal, and 'stop' is a command people react to before thinking.
What you need
- Your phone on a stand at face height
- A real reason to stop: a warning or a costly mistake
- Good light on your face and hand
Step by step
Plan
- Pick a moment where the viewer is about to make a choice: buying, signing up, posting.
- Write the reason as one short sentence that names that choice.
Film
- Frame your face and shoulders. Your hand will come up between you and the lens.
- Push your palm toward the lens fast, stopping about 20 cm away, and say “Stop” as it lands.
- Do a few takes. In some, focus on your hand; in others, on your face. Pick the one that reads fastest.
Edit
- Start the video with the hand already moving in.
- Add a short sound, like a whoosh or a click, as the hand lands.
Use it in your niche
- TechHand up: “Stop. Don't update your phone tonight.”
- BeautyHand up: “Stop. Put the toner down.”
- GamingHand up: “Stop. Don't spend your coins yet.”
Pro tips
- Use this only when there really is a warning. If the reason is weak, people feel tricked.
- Name the product or situation. “Before you buy new headphones” beats “before you buy anything”.
Avoid
- Keeping the hand up longer than 1.5 seconds. It blocks your face and people lose interest.
- Shouting “Stop!” as a joke with nothing after it. Viewers learn to ignore you.
