The Pile
Best for: Food tests, unboxings, collections
The hook
- Do
- Open on a huge pile of the thing the video is about.
- On screen
- I bought every flavour
The first 3 seconds
- 0.0sThe whole pile fills the frame.
- 0.5sCaption: “I bought every flavour”.
- 1.5sYou say the exact count: “All 47 of them.”
- 3.0sThe viewer wants the ranking, the test or the mess.
Why it works
Excess is fun to look at, and people want to see what happens to all of it.
What you need
- Lots of the same thing: snacks, sneakers, pens, cans
- A clean floor or table to spread it out
- A way to film from above or from behind the pile
Step by step
Plan
- Decide what you'll do with the pile: rank them, taste them, test them. That's the payoff.
- Count everything so you can say an exact number.
Film
- Spread everything out so it fills the frame edge to edge. A pile that doesn't fill the frame looks small.
- Shoot from above, or from just behind the pile with you sitting behind it.
- Then film each item close up as you go through them.
Edit
- Open on the pile for 1–2 seconds, then cut to the first item fast.
- Speed through the boring ones and slow down for the best and the worst.
Use it in your niche
- FoodEvery crisp flavour in the shop: “Ranking all 23 flavours of Lay's”
- School50 pens on a desk: “I tested every pen in the shop to find the best one”
- FashionEvery pair of shoes you own: “Rating all 31 pairs of my sneakers”
Pro tips
- Say the number out loud and put it on screen. Exact numbers sound real.
- Save the best or craziest item for the end, and say so at the start.
Avoid
- A pile of 6 things. It needs to look like too much.
- Going through every item at the same speed. It gets boring around item 8.
